Overview of Standards
Wire mesh containers come in two dominant global standards, each derived from regional pallet systems:
- EU Standard — Based on the Euro pallet (800×1200mm), the container footprint is 800×600mm. Two containers fit side-by-side on a single Euro pallet.
- JP Standard — Based on the Japanese industrial pallet (1100×1100mm), the container footprint is 1100×850mm. This larger footprint provides more internal volume.

Regional Adoption
EU Standard Regions:
Europe (primary), Middle East, North Africa, West Africa, and parts of South America that follow European logistics standards. The EU standard is the most widely used wire container format globally due to Europe's historical dominance in manufacturing exports.
JP Standard Regions:
Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines), China, and parts of South America. The JP standard dominates in Asia-Pacific supply chains and is gaining ground in Africa where Chinese trade influence is strong.
Pallet Compatibility
The choice of wire container standard must match your pallet system:
- Euro pallet (800×1200): Two EU containers fit perfectly side-by-side. Four containers (2×2) can be stacked on a single pallet for storage.
- Japanese pallet (1100×1100): One JP container fits per pallet. The 1100mm length matches the pallet, and the 850mm width allows slight overhang tolerance.
- US pallet (1200×1000): Neither standard fits perfectly. JP containers are closer (1100mm fits within 1200mm) but leave a gap. Custom containers are recommended for US pallet systems.
Which Standard Should You Use?
Choose EU Standard When:
- Your supply chain operates in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa
- You use Euro pallets throughout your logistics
- Space efficiency is critical — two containers per pallet
- You need lighter containers for manual handling
Choose JP Standard When:
- Your supply chain operates in Asia-Pacific or South America
- You use Japanese/Chinese standard pallets
- You need higher load capacity and larger volume per container
- You are storing bulky items that need more floor space per unit
